Thanks to generous supporters, Karma has a new, larger shelter! Your continued support by purchasing my book will help feed Karma for many years to come. We will continue to donate funds from the purchase of every book to the RSPN and Karma in Bhutan.

Bhutan and Karma

Bhutan is a small kingdom, in the beautiful Himalayan mountains, rich with culture and nature. With a population of about 700,000, many people are still farmers , living a simple life. Among the hundreds of species of birds, black-necked cranes are considered an important part of the culture.

Black-necked cranes migrate to Bhutan for the winter annually, crossing the Himalayas. During the 2015 migration, a young crane was separated from his parents, was injured and rescued by some local people.  No one is quite sure how he was injured. He was taken in by the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), given a small shelter and named Karma. He continues to reside there today.

Karma‘s wing was injured beyond repair. He can never fly again. He sometimes calls out to fellow cranes while they are migrating, from his primitive, outdoor shelter.  A new facility has been proposed and approved, but funds are desperately needed to help make this happen.

Proceeds from the sale of our book will help build a new shelter for Karma, plus a rehabilitation facility for future injured cranes in Bhutan. If interested in helping with a financial gift, please contact the author through our contact page, or RSPN directly at:
